Title: HELP PLEASE COSSIE
Post by Daniel on May 14th, 2012, 4:28pm
Hi all
We are about to collect a 24v saloon with a bit of a difference but thats another topic alltogether  ;D
It has Rover   :-[ front lights i think they look like these
http://images.exchangeandmart.co.uk/images/mmo/i1/34376/ATR22606793/image1_400.jpg

And the mondeo mk3 grill. We have never owned a cosworth and i really want one  ;D We have a 2.3 now and insurance is around £500 with aviva. The problem now is we are getting quotes for fully comp over a grand with these 'modifications'. How is third party fire and theft? Anyone got any ideas of different companies. PLEASE because we really dont want the insurance to ruin our chance to own a cossie.
Thanks everyone  ;D

Ask the chap if its been checkee over or sva tested

if not wouldnt bother saying its modded theyll void the insurance anyway without that with that extent of mods

Daniel.
No matter whom you insure with they are going to take the piddle out of you for a couple of years.   Aviva are normally pretty good, but they can also be expensive like any insurance company in certain circumstances.   I'm an old-git, and I like a certain level of insurance, I still perhaps spend too much, but I always go for fully-comp, and no excess, with recovery to home.   This is currently costing me about the £250 mark with Swiftcover.   No-matter what insurance you get they will probably load an excess on you, this could be as much as £500, then they might only offer you £1000 for your car in the event of a total write-off, which means they pay you £500!   One thing I would say is don't under-value your car, look at market prices and pitch it near the top.   Try to limit the mileage truthfully.   Find an insurance company that will allow one of your parents to act as a kind of guarantour, but will still give you the no-claims bonus after the clear year, they are out there.   It takes a long-time on the internet to find a company that will take you on, and the prices vary by a lot, it took me half a day to find the best on-line, and Swiftcover come out quite near the top in the independent guides.   Mind you, what's good for one person might not be for another.   You might also try a company that will insure all family cars under one umbrella, these are short in supply, but might be a road into insurance.  Finally you might try a classic or agreed insurance.   These policy's though are always trapped by mileage restrictions, and sometimes time restrictions, and almost definitely won't build-up a no-claims bonus.   It takes time and research, and pressing the right buttons.

Try RH Specialist Insurance - I have a Sierra insured with them as a 'Modified Classic' - so long as you don't do silly things like dropping a V12 Merlin in it they should be worth contacting for a quote.
