Title: Square Post Terminal Scorpio Batteries
Post by Technology2005 on Jan 28th, 2011, 12:44pm
I know this one comes up a lot so thought I'd mention that I've found a company that sells a battery that should fit the Scorpios and it comes with square post terminals (no need for messing with adapters)

I've rung them to confirm that they do indeed have them and fingers crossed it'll be here Monday.

They have Numax Type 099 at £70 with 3 year warranty and Advanced 099 at £60 with 4 year warranty. Both have 680 CCA and 72Ah capacity.

Not sure if a link is ok but the company is car batteries online and shipping was free next day (clearly not including this weekend  ::) )

David. There appears to be two similarly named firms and on neither site can I find the batteries you are referring to. On one of them I put my Reg No. in and it came up with a totally unsuitable size battery. Is it me or why would the 'advanced' one have a longer warranty yet cost less?.  ???.

When I searched by car and reg it came back with batteries that weren't suitable but if you search for 099 type it comes up with the Numax and Advanced. The Advanced (I presume) is a lesser brand but it does have the longer warranty according to the site.

The link to the two batteries is here but please remove if this is not allowed.

What is all this battery hooha, the battery manufacturers list the type 097 for the Scorpio,I have eight Scorpios on the fleet, they all have 097's on them, always have had, they are always available at my local factor,in stock,on the shelf  ::)
It's nearly as daft as all this lubricating oil hype, why pay a ransom for fancy stuff when the recommended spec is 5w30 at £11 per 5 litre, this is semi synthetic and has superseded the original mineral spec of 10w30,which was £7 per 5 litre.
The batteries were £40 for years, but jumped to £50 last year when a financial mess was looming for the country, the logic being that there would be a sharp reduction in turnover, therefore those who had to buy the commodities would make up for those who didn't.  :(

I was offered 097 batteries for the other Scorpio last year but they couldn't get the square post ones. I have used adapters on that car and to be honest it was a pain in the rear because the battery cover refused to sit nicely as a result.

Either way as everywhere I rang seemed to say that square post batteries were very hard to source I just thought it was a result to actually find some at a half decent price.

The 097 spec HAS square posts,it's part of that spec,my factor is currently stocking the 'YUASA' brand what'er that may be  :)

Fair point, maybe it was that the places I tried had 096 then and couldn't actually get the 097 ones....I've slept since I bought them lol

Either way I know I had great difficulty finding the right battery last time.

What price are the 097's that your factor can get?

Yuasa batteries are common on Motorbikes, Burglar Alarm Bell Boxes and Computer UPS devices. Never seen a Yuasa car battery before.

I know the name Yuasa very well in connection with motorcycles. Was supposed to be a good name although it's been a long time since I had anything to do with them.

I thought The Batteries had to be 90Ah capacity?    :-/

Interesting point! '097' doesn't mean 97 Ah. They're all 59 - 60 apparently

The plot thickens! Largest Bosch I can find (via BuyPartsBy) that fits a Scorpio is S5007, 74 Ah.

On page 110 of my owner's book is a drawing of the battery with "Motorcraft superstart" written on it. That led me to this topic (via Google):

From Exide spec book :- All Scorpio Petrol 097,510cca,59ah,Scorpio diesel,095,670cca,71ah,this has a longer case.I doubt Exide would under quote the vehicle requirements, they having one of the oldest names in the business whoever may own them now.
