Title: Wanted: HBC
Post by Sian_RK on Nov 27th, 2005, 10:15am
HBC Wanted for 1998 Model year Scorpio 2.3 Ultima; has dual-zone climate control. Have checked fuses and so forth so I'm pretty sure this is what has failed.

My heater motor stopped working a while back and I removed the HBC  (2
screws & 3 plugs) you can see the fan motor through the hole, I doused the
brushes & bearings with WD40 ( DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE ) made a jumper
cable to temperally join the two large plugs ( ignore the small one ) black
to black / purple to purple Turned on the ignition and gave the fans a push
with a piece of dowel and bingo it started to run,ran it for a few mins
switched off and doused it again. This time when I switched the ignition on
the fan started on it's own,so I put it back together. That was a week ago
and it's still running as sweet as ever.Try it if it does not work you will
have to remove the unit.....Kimi....

Thanks! I had checked for voltage but not fan operation yet, so I ran out and did the test. Sadly, the fan fired up right away so it wasn't sticking, and it does look like I'm going to need an HBC to get the fan running.

Will it knacker the fan if I fit an on-off switch to my bypass wiring and run it at full speed?

Sorry I've not got back sooner, I forgot about the post.If you run the fan direct as in the test I belive it should be ok as it would be like running the fan as if you turned it up full. I would still recomend that you get another HBC as soon as you can to keep the car standard. I think I have a spare one in my shed , if I can find it you can have it FOC. Another site member gave it to me so it seems only fair to pass it on. Let me know if you still need one....Kimi

Desperately! My gf wouldn't let me short the fan to run full speed, so replacing the HBC is becoming a critical situation for her (the Scorpio is her car - I drive a 'gullwing' Sera, a new Beetle and a 6-year old Subaru Outback that makes Scorpio build quality look like 3 classes above!

I think the Christmas post has eaten the HBC Kimi sent, as it hasn't surfaced here :(

So, still looking for one unless they decide to deliver it. Do Ford Scorpio parts get mistaken for terrorist devices or something?
