Title: 2.3 Ultima Estate : Selling Soonest Post by iainc on Jan 25th, 2014, 1:30pm My 168k 2.3 State Blue Ult Est is up for sale, as from today - under domestic pressure to have a smaller, fwd (and newer) estate. The short story is that we are replacing it with a new Octavia, which is available at 1st March. The intention was to run the Scorpy until May/June, but a build of the Octy to our specs was already in the pipeline, so we took it. Anyway, enough back-story . . . Our car: First, the PROs: Serviced every 5 - 6k, since 2003, always with an oil change (that was twice a year when working, but only annually since retirement); Engine & Transmission: it still drives v well (June holiday to Outer Hebrides: 940miles - mpg 33.5); A/C: new condenser last year & replacement pump (caused by failure of the magnetic clutch, which was also replaced); The list of parts replaced over the years we have owned the car (since Mar 2003) is too long for here; suffice it to say that anything important that had to be replaced/repaired has been done; Electrics: all functioning (except for dayglow leds on heated seat switches); Sunroof: no probs: replaced under warranty some years ago because of rust under rubber seal; Interior: Excellent: only 2 of us; leather and carpets in excellent condition; Wheels and Tyres: Good condition, as is the spare (used twice); Cruise Control: no probs; Tailgate was replaced a while ago because of rust (looking back, I don't know why I did this because it wasn't really bad); New Steering Rack in 2012; New battery in 2012; New Rear Pads last August; No MOT advisories last time. OK - now the CONs: No surprise that there is some rust on the bodywork: R/O/S wheel arch: I have sanded and Hammerited the edge, so it doesn't look bad, and limits the corrosion; R/N/S wheel arch: minor corrosion; There was rust on the underframe by the rear suspension but this has been plated and is fine; The N/S sill has been plated, but needs re-doing for MOT; O/S sill was plated last year: stilll fine; N/S headlamp mists in cold, wet weather; Heated Front Windscreen: works, but some elements have failed (as happens with vibration/heat etc); The self-levelling shocks were replaced (one had failed) in 2012 with normal type, so the car sits about 1" lower than originally and shouldn't be used to tow- as documented on this site; And there is a slight depression near the bottom of the driver's door (no rust or paint damage) where the car was once head-butted by a labrador travelling at high speed; Lastly: the tax runs out at the end of Feb, and the MOT on 23rd Mar. Given a free choice, I was going to have the sill plating done, MOT it, then sell in the summer, but circumstances have forced my hand. And I have the Scorpio Dog Guard (not in use because we don't have dogs), but it could be re-fitted to the brackets. Oh - one other CON: the Radio/Cassette work properly, but the CD player in the boot is tempremental: some disks work some of the time, and only if the unit is flat. I guess it's the loader rather than the laser. Build was Oct 1997, I think (from the VIN code), but it was first registered only in Mar 1999 - so it's legitimately a T-plate, but pre-face-lift. Hope that gives an honest enough description. You all know how good these cars are. I live in South Cumbria, near North Lancs/West Yorks borders. Iain C |

Title: Re: 2.3 Ultima Estate : Selling Soonest Post by amigafan2003 on Feb 6th, 2014, 6:41pm FYI - if anyone wants to use this for towing you'll be fine if you chuck a couple of grayston spring assisters on it. |
