Title: How old are Scorpio drivers??? Post by Wayne24v on Apr 3rd, 2004, 2:20pm Is it just me or are all Scorpio drivers 60+? Everytime I see one I look at the driver, wondering whether to wave or not, and they all seem to be old couples that don't even notice that another Scorpio is driving towards them. I'm only 26, maybe I'm in minority. My kids always shout out when they see another Scorpio. I've also NEVER seen another 24v. I think I need to make it to one of these meets. Cheers, Wayne |

Post by allante on Apr 3rd, 2004, 10:34pm Im not 60 either (allthough probably older than you!), dont wear a baseball cap, have heavy rock on the stereo and funnily enough, saw another 24v in the local co-op car park yesterday. I would have parked next to it but someone had parked a 4x4 bread tin next to it ;) I had a 5 litre Plymouth fury when i was 18, People always wave to you then, unforunately they were always in a white car with a big orange stripe down the side and always introduced themselves as 'is this car YOURS sir???' ;D |

I’ve owned my scorp for 6 months now and I’ve certainly got the Scorpio fever :). funny thing is, when you drive a scorp you cant help but feel sorry for all the people driving around in the common biscuit tins. a pal of mine has recently purchased a fiat punto which he paid £6000 for!!! it boasts an in-dash CD player, front driving lights oh and the all important wash/wipe with intermittent control on the rear hatch!!! Sheer Luxury ;D anyways, any advance on 20? ;) Danny R |

And I have only seen a facelift model once in nearly 4 years of driving - 2 if you count my own. Apparantly, only a handful of them were ever sold in this country due to our horrible taxation system on new cars. According to my uncle who is salesman in a Ford dealer, my '98 facelift Ultima 2.3 auto would have cost the equivalent of nearly €50,000 when new. Nasty!!! |

I used to look at them with envy before and seemed to see one a day at least. Perhaps I am too busy tring to work out which d**ned gear the thing is going to find next or where the fuel is going to look out of the window. I don't think all Scorpio drivers are old, they just seem that way because of all the problems. Actually, if I can sort it out I I am sure I shall get to enjoy it. How old?? er 59 last count .. Post by Fast_Dutchman on Apr 5th, 2004, 8:56pm Well i'm 40 and i have my third Scorpio, (In the Netherlands the Granada's are Scorpio too) First i had a 2.9 gl mk3 That was a good car but i missed something, after 3years i bought a Full option 2.9 Ghia mk3 wich i still have, but he have a major problem (He won't Start when it rains) so i bought a month ago an mk4 Ultima from 1995 with only 45000 miles on it, this is my dream and there aren't much of them here. It is the best car I have ever owned, and believe me I have owned quite a few cars in my time!! I wouldn't trade her in despite some of the problems I have had with her at the minute :) I couldn't go back to owning something else, life would never be the same. I usually see about 4 Scorps a day here on the Wirral. Mainly the same ones tho. |

Post by Kenboy on Apr 7th, 2004, 3:34pm Hi well I have been a ford man for most of my driving life My first was the Zephyr and then 2000E Consul etc during the past 20 years I have owned mk 3 granadas and my latest Ford is the 2.3 Scorpio Saloon 1997 and although I would not class it as the most satisfying as far as running costs are concerned, there is something about these cars that make it feel important to own. BTW I am 62 and these years have not been without there problems but hey this is the first time that I have considered counselling Is there a help group such as Scorpio Anonymous (SA) and I do not mean this site because after reading most of the posts I think we are all in need of therapy after all we are Scorpio owners, Hang on I think I am having a breakdown. I've been mainly a Jaguar man (XJ6, Mk10, Mk2 and E-type) and have only owned 3 Fords before this one since passing my test in 1968 - Anglia 1200, Sierra Cosworth and Mondeo Ghia - but bought the Scorpio on a whim knowing absolutely nothing about them except that I liked the luxury. I am 37 in a few days time but have always loved big cars. I am not one to have any one-sided affiliation to a particular brand as over the years most of the manufacturers have produced great and bad cars. These days, especially with the fleet market being so predominant in the UK most cars are pretty much the same in each class, usually comes down to what people want to be seen driving in! |

At 18 i wanted an Opel Calibra 4x4 but i did not get Insurance at some companies, caus i was young and stupide. But some plases i cold get Insurance but then the price was so hig that after 2years og paying i had payed the same in Insurance as the car was worth... (Ended up with an Escort in stead.) Bu 23/25 is a "magic" age when the Insurance companies stop caling you young and stupid.... >:( |

Churchill say you have to be thirty for a Scorpio Cosworth! Madness! However. Here are my two scenarios for you: 19 year old, no NCD, two year's driving, P reg Cosworth, Direct Line £2400. 20 year old, 2 years NCD, two years driving, P reg Cosworth, Direct Line £1064. I'm in a sticky situation as i'm with Churchill for my old VW, the policy renews in January. As you can see from the figures, it figures to carry on paying Churchill for two months for a car I no longer own, and declare the cossie off-road until January. :( Roll on new year. D |

The Ultima is actually my boyfriends (I have an ex postie van), but I drive it too. My insurance is pretty low, as I put it on as an extra car on my existing policy. As he has just bought a new Scorpio, I've not yet insured myself on the new one, but the old one was only about £200 extra on a 2L Granada Scorpio saloon. It is definitely a lot less on the 2L versions (and I still get the leather interior, heated seats, power steering, which is a bit different to the van...) Ellie :) |
