Title: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 25th, 2004, 12:40pm Hi All, I'm interested in fitting Steve Collister's global opening/closing mod - see http://forum.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1080522044;start=0 for some details (and yes, everyone got sorted out in the end - that bit got wiped out by the hurricane!). Before I contact Steve can anyone who wants one please reply here so we can give him an idea of numbers (this will let him build a batch of them rather than doing it in dribs and drabs). Cheers, Dave In case you missed it, there's also a bit more discussion here: http://forum.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1095600517 |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 26th, 2004, 9:19pm Good news, Steve is willing to make some more but would naturally prefer to do a batch rather than the odd one here and there. Here's more definitive info: "It is available ready built and tested for £65. P&P to uk is included. (Europe P&P + £5) Postage is 1st class signed for and insured in UK. Or for europe I use Airmail + International signed for service + Extra insurance to cover full price of unit. It is quite easy to fit and will add the following features to your car. 1. Flash indicators on lock / unlock. 2. Sound a buzzer on lock / unlock. 3. Activate global closing when car is deadlocked - so you will never forget to close a window or sunroof. 4. Activate global opening if you unlock the car twice in 15 seconds. I.E. on a hot day unlock your car, lock then unlock again and all windows and sunroof will open. 5. Auto door locking feature - when you drive off after about 20 yards all your doors will lock - prevents getting carjacked or robbed at the traffic lights. Full easy to follow instructions are included and a test bulb and test procedure to follow to ensure you have connected all wiring correctly. Also a video clip on cd to watch showing me doing an installation. Also wiring connectors are included. I am available to be contacted via telephone if you have any problems fitting the unit. Payment can be made by direct credit transfer to my bank account, Paypal, or cheque / P.O." Let's give everyone a week to think about it and, hopefully, there'll be a few of us lining up by then Cheers, Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by geraghtyg on Sep 27th, 2004, 8:24pm I'll go for it too. I just might end being the only Scorpio in Ireland with this feature :D |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Vulcan on Sep 28th, 2004, 12:47am Dunno..I'm not sure I can fit it as I have an aftermarket Scorpion alarm which locks the doors and sets the bells, I don't use the Ford system although I do have the global closing. Anyway. my better half has an Orion with a Toad alarm which locks the doors after a short time once the keys are in and it is very bleedin' annoying.... you can not sit and tick over waiting for someone, without the central locking deciding to locking the flippin doors!! You have to reach over and use the passenger door handle to unlock, if you use the drivers door to do it the stupid system won't let you out that door till it's been locked and unlocked by the remote.... aarrrghh!! You then open the doors using the passenger side handle and after a while it decides to lock you in again. Just pee's me off a bit... >:( If I want the doors locked I'll push the handle at my side an it's done..... don't really want or need to be locked in automatically... sorry :-[ Just my opinion though.... |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Paul B on Sep 28th, 2004, 6:34am If you were to have this mod, but you didn't want the "Lock-on-go" feature, all you'd have to do is not connect the one wire which controls it. It connects to the VSS. So... its easy to disable any feautres you don't want. |
||
|
Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by craig on Sep 28th, 2004, 7:36am also just to add to what paul has correctly stated,with this mod,the doors lock at a pre determined speed (approx 20 MPH),not after a certain time,so the car can be left ticking over to ETC.... |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 28th, 2004, 11:14am Hi dexix, The bit in quotes in my second entry on this thread is a direct quote from Steve and covers how he would like payment etc. I could maybe have made that a bit clearer. All the transactions will be direct with Steve, once we can tell him how many of us would like one then we can get things going. Personally, I can't wait ;D ;D ;D Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 28th, 2004, 12:42pm wumpster, You can replace the door modules with newer ones (from a scrappy or find someone who's breaking a later model). Make sure you get the right part numbers though (haven't got them to hand right now). It's a fairly simple job to do (well, if I can do it... ;) ) That will then give you global opening/closing on the windows only. Not sure what the situation is with the sunroof - I'm trying to get hold of a sunroof motor that is compatible with global opening/closing to see if fitting that works. If I can find one cheap enough then it seems worth giving it a go - otherwise global opening/closing with just the windows will have to do + with all the other things the mod does I'll still be a happy bunny. Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 28th, 2004, 12:45pm Ok, The part numbers are near the bottom of this thread: http://forum.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Wants;action=display;num=1096147485 |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by urbanracer on Sep 28th, 2004, 12:47pm It might not be a problem. Steve fitted mine in march 2003,all I wanted was an audible and flashing lights to know when the alarm was switched on/off. When steve tried the key for global closing it did not work,but I was not bothered as this was just an extra feature. But when he had finished all the features worked,inc global closing from the remote. And its brill, Joe |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Sep 28th, 2004, 12:59pm Joe, That's very interesting! Does your sunroof open/close as well? Does global opening work as well as global closing? Cheers, Dave (maybe wishing he hadn't just upped his bid on global closing sun roof motor - ;D ) |
||
|
Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by urbanracer on Sep 28th, 2004, 1:08pm Yeap,as I said before all features,windows/sunroof.etc ;D I would fit it first and then see if you need any extras. Joe |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by craig on Sep 28th, 2004, 6:11pm dave,i'm with you on that one,so urbanracer,what you are saying is that it does not matter if you have the closing/opening option with the key,when you fit the mod,it works no matter what yeah ? |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Wayne24v on Sep 28th, 2004, 9:18pm Brilliant mod, I highly recommend it. Although in my opinion it's better to solder the wires if you can, rather than using scotch locks as it seems to be more reliable. Also put a couple of layers of tape over the speaker hole as it is a tad loud. All in all though very good. :) And YES, you'll start leaving the windows down when parking up, just so you can use the global closing ;D - Sad I know but who cares?? 8) Cheers, Wayne |

You haven't really been doing that have you Wayne? How silly - You wouldn't catch me doing a thing like that ::) ;) As for the bleeper.... I also found it a bit loud. I ended up mountin it inside the car (with the control box). That quietened it down! |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by TaperOne on Sep 29th, 2004, 10:36am Hi, Count me in for this mod. I read all the original threads on this option and thought it was a superb upgrade. The biggest problem I find with the standard Ford system is that there is no visual or audible warning that the car has unlocked or locked (with the exception of the deadlock), so even that additional feature would be welcome. As for the global closing. I could definately be swayed to the sad side and do this just for fun in carparks etc. Just let me know when to order and pay. Cheers for now. TaperOne |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Oct 2nd, 2004, 6:08pm Ok, It looks like there are around 11 of us for 12 units (including the mailing list too). I am also getting the air con mod at the same time (it's described in detail on the main site). Please note, according to Steve you do need to have global/closing with your key for those aspects of the mod to work. Steve is happy for me to pass on his payment details so please email me (davidb@smartemail.co.uk) or PM me and I'll send the relevant ones on - it would also be useful if you could let me know if you're having the a/c mod too and when payment has been sent (just so I can keep a log in case things get confused with so many of us). Here's the reply I got from Steve re. payments etc: "Yes the AC mod is £10. Please state whether or not it will be fitted in the dash or cubby tray. I'd prefer payment via direct bank transfer, this is easy if you do online banking. Or PayPal, but this cost's me money so the bank option is better for me. Or cheque - but this cost's me money too as I have to travel to bank etc. If everyone pays £35 up front to cover the cost of ordering the parts and then the other £30 when the units are ready. I will start doing some construction this week as I do have a stock of some parts. I will order the other parts in a weeks time so I know how many serious orders there are. I will send out units in the order that I receive the deposits." Cheers, Dave ps. If having the a/c mod too I suggest payments of £40 and £35 which is what I'm doing. |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Oct 2nd, 2004, 10:27pm Wumpster, Mine didn't have it either. If you can pick up the modules for the front doors you're in business. Otherwise, all the other stuff will work until you do (indicator flash on alarm arming, door lock-on-go etc.). I'm sure this will come around again and there'll be another batch of people who want this next year... So, you could always sort your global out on the cheap and then kick off the next thread on this ;) Just wait until you see the thing at a meeting (all your fault Craig ;D ;D ;D) Cheers, Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by craig on Oct 3rd, 2004, 9:21am thanks dave.... ;D ;D i have my uses ;) ;) ;) wait untill weston next year,if i attend (sure i will,wifey can drive :D),you'll be able to feel the "real blast" of the air-con mod as well,watch your passengers turn blue :o :o :o :o :o joking aside,anybody who orders the global mod,will not be disappointed,usually works best on a red hot day in a busy supermarket car park ;D ;D ;D ;D regards craig.. |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Oct 8th, 2004, 4:51pm Hi all, My big idea of swapping in a replacement sunroof motor to see if that would work with global didn't work. In fact, the motor already in there had been changed to the newer model at some point anyway. There are only 3 wires in the power connector to the sunroof motor in my car (& I suspect all older/non-global ones). The global ones have 5, 2 of which are, er, control wires for global opening/closing. Back to the drawing board... :( Still looking forward to fitting the mod though ;D Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by craig on Oct 21st, 2004, 8:50am coulden't agree more there paul,everyone go for the air con mod next,just as good believe me ;D ;D ;D regarding the fitting,like paul said,take your time,and just follow the instructions,making sure you have connections to all the right wires,1 final thing,when you place the black box behind the dash,make sure the loom which plugs in has a little "give" in it,just in case to need to remove the box at a later date.good luck to you all ;) ;) |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by geraghtyg on Oct 21st, 2004, 8:56am I've done the right thing and ordered the Global Opening/Closing Mod and the Air con mod @ the same time. It'll be like an early Christmas when they arrive :D The only thing i don't have on my car is the puddle lights - that's something I would've really liked to have fitted. The d**n doors don't even have blanking plates. Rear electric seats would be nice but I would lose my centre headrest - The chances of finding a Granada with electric rear seats in Ireland are probably about 0:1!!! |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Oct 21st, 2004, 11:20am ... and two have just turned up here (mine & one for Chris B off the mailing list). Time to get reading & watching the video I think :) Dave |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by geraghtyg on Nov 11th, 2004, 8:37am Mod arrived. It came with the box and another loom of wire and a cd-rom. 2 questions: Should there be audio with the video and secondly, is there a paper manual included? Only had a scan through the cd-rom and will probably figure out fairly easily what to do anyway. It can't be that difficult. Just need a nice day when it's not raining or freezing so it may be next May before I do it. |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by Dave Boulton on Nov 11th, 2004, 12:08pm Hi, There's no audio track on the video & no hard copy - there are a couple of word documents on the CD which you can print out. That's about as far as I've got so far :( Maybe this weekend, weather permitting... Dave |
||

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by craig on Nov 11th, 2004, 2:01pm the word document pretty much sums it all up,the video clip is basically just for illustration,and yes there is no sound on the CD,print off the word document,and you should be well on the way |

Title: Re: Anyone for the Global Opening/Closing Mod? Post by geraghtyg on Nov 11th, 2004, 2:20pm Thanks Dave and Craig. I'll have a look at that word doc tonight. Rumour has it that it'll be a fine weekend in Ireland this weekend so maybe I'll get it done then :D |
