Title: PETROL WARNING!!!!!!
Post by taliban on Feb 28th, 2007, 6:23pm
on the news just now, tesco are suspected of supplying contaminated petrol to customers, basically the petrol knackers the oxygen sensor. some garages have stated that the problem is now so widespread and has happened so quickly that the spares needed to repair cars are now in short supply.
tesco have said they are investigating the problem which they suggest is their suppliers and will act instantly upon their findings.......

From what i've heard its not just tesco. Its more likely presumed to be just from Tesco because they probably sell more petrol than most other petrol stations.

I'm just glad i wont be needing to fill up for a few days. ;)

Ethanol contamination or summat? ???

Well dodgy   @

News report I heard stated that it was Tesco & Morrisons, and the contaminated supply was from a refinery in the Thames Valley area.

Don't go there, I've used supermarket fuel a couple of times and wouldn't go there again, guaranteed to make any decent car run like crap...

Do a search on the Jag and BMW forums and you'll see the havoc cheap fuel causes with the Nikasil bored V engines - even on a steel lined engine, just imagine what damage this is doing to the sensors and special coatings...nothing like short runs and cheap fuel to run a car into the ground.

It isn't just the ethanol content, it's the sulphur among other things, all designed to boost the octane rating of sub-standard fuel...if you want to keep your car and enjoy driving it, supermarket fuel isn't wise...

Regards, Bruce ;)

I heard on the radio news tonight that Tesco have done tests on their petrol & they have stated that there is nothing wrong with it  :-/

If this refinery is supplying petrol to more than just Tesco & Morrisons then that means alot of small independent garages may be selling it as well  ::)

These news items will be of interest ref this problem.

Seems like these fuel companies have some explaining to do!! Naturally they are denying everything, but the numbers of problems coming in seem to tell a very different story.
