if you are going north this christmas or for hogmanay be warned, the last bit of road to glasgow that isn,t motorway, aka the cumberland gap just north of carlisle is being made the M74 and there is a 50mph limit for about three miles and there is "spec"speed and distance cameras taking your average speed over the limit of the 50 mph . you must believe me that they are in full working order. my sources tell me that at least 1000 people per week are getting caught and are going to get a nice little letter thro their mailbox for xmas from cumbria police. i made a trip to gretna tother night for a meal and sat at approx 50mph, all and sunder including hgv,s sped past me oblivious to the limit. please take care scorp boys!

Only themselves to blame, these temporary speed limits are well signposted in advance.

Set your CC to 50mph, and watch the nutters whizz by. :-*

Just change lanes ;)

SPECS is only licensed for use in a single lane.

Of course, I wouldn't advocate doing more than 4 mph without a man with a red flag walking in front of you since, as we all know, speed ~~raises money for the government~~ kills ???

There are times I love the USA - no speed cameras, cops that chase criminals and not regular motorists and the worst you get is they pull along side you on the motorway and point at their speedo - you slow down to the speed limit and they race off at 100mph.

Sure they carry guns and won't speak to you until you are safely in handcuffs but the whole attitude towards them is far more positive than back over there.

Seems like they don't see the motorist as a revenue generating machine and that must be the difference!

I got pulled for speeding in Mississippi.

Got me a "Courtesy Citation" c/o Sgt B Jones, Olive Branch Police Department, 9180 Pidgeon Roost Ave, Olive Branch, Mississippi.

84 in a 70 zone. "I don't want to leave you with a sour taste in your mouth about America or Mississippi Mr Holliday. Some I'm just going to issue you with a Courtesy Citation. But you slow down Sir, this is a bad road, a real bad road!"

I surely ain't never been busted with such good manners y'all 8)
