Title: Scorpio in the snow
Post by Chieftain on Dec 31st, 2010, 6:14pm
Well now the snow has gone I am very pleased with how the Scorp performed, it got places I did not think it would go even up the main hill in Stroud town centre (for those who know it) which is steep to say the least, it passed other vans and cars spinning to no where.  held the ground well and the combo of TC and ABS kept me safe.

very happy owner.

Mine was pretty good ???

Had a lot of snow here in early 2005, was using the Scorp every day then, no TC but winter setting on the box was handy. Jag and Scorpio always seemed to manage the snow better than the Mondeo, had to use the Jag last winter when we had 6 inches in places, torque when pulling away could be a problem and managed a slide or two at junctions (again torque in 1st gear) but was impressed how well it handled the ice with the Avon ZZ3s fitted.

What RWD cars like the Scorpio really lack is an LSD, that would improve things a lot.

With the winters we're seeing lately, maybe it's time to invest in a set of winter tyres - if I could find the space to stuff them into the garage ;D

Bruce.

I fitted winter tyres to my S Class in December. Bought off a guy in Germany for £300.00 fitted (Including genuine Merc wheels) the car ran like it was on rails!! Last year in my previous S Class I ran it on normal tyres and couldn't keep the back end straight....

I have just bought a set of pirreli tyres and new merc wheels for £300.00 ready for the summer. So for just over £600.00 I have a set of winter and a set of summer tyres for my car.

The last set of Goodyear F1's I put on my Scorpio cost me just shy of £500.00 and that was a good few years ago so a bargain has been had!
