Title: Should I change the Transmission Fluid ?
Post by 98scenic on Apr 29th, 2008, 1:03pm
My car is booked in for a service this coming Thursday at my local garage

Should I get them to change the automatic transmission fluid at the same time, or is it a "sealed for life" gearbox ?

Cheers

Hi. No, it's not sealed for life, you can change the fluid and filter quite easily with the sump removed...lots about this on the forums, there's a page with photos on the main site.

Regards, Bruce :)

I think the autobox oil change is not in the "default" maintenance program, not sure though?
But it definately needs to be changed and with the new filter. I tried to maintain a period of
20.000km on my oils, because in Finland the temperatures may vary quite a lot during a years
cycle. 30.000km would mostly be just fine, but the better you take care of your car, the better
it takes you from a to b...

Yes, a  very wise move,  a new filter and  fresh  ATF  can  increase  the  life of your autobox.

Get some quotes from auto transmission  specialists.

Your   local  FMD   shouldn't be trusted............... at all,   no,  I'm  only  kidding,
         or am I ?   ;D
