engine cuts out while coasting

Hello My beautiful 24v Scorpio 1995 has started to cut out without any warning while we are coasting at around 45mph usually on a slight incline either up or down and steering around potholes. The first I know is the steering gets heavy, there is no stuttering or racing. Once we have stopped the car starts and drives as though it had never happened. It only happens once per journey and on some journeys not at all. Any suggestions? Thank you

Happened to me occasionally. Just before the last time I noticed that as I was cruising at about 35-40mph and around 1700rpm the car "didn't feel right" and acceleration was a bit sluggish. Mine always conked out going round a roundabout (the same one !!) as I took foot off accelerator with revs about 1000ish. I cured it by taking the IACV off and giving the innards a good spray with carb cleaner (there's a lot of carbon build up in there). After the 3rd occurrence (in many years) I made it part of the annual maintenance. Didn't happen again. It's a quick and easy job (be careful with gasket - try to leave in place) and hopefully the answer.
