Yesterday, after a fun filled spin on the M25 (av speed 12mph), I saw a burst of steam from the bonnet  .
Oh joy I thought as I spotted the split in my top rad hose 
So I got the pliers from the boot and eased off the spring clip. This loosened clip I positioned directly over the split and then let the spring clip tighten over the split. A top up with water, again from the boot  , and I drove home. Drove to breakers today changed hose there (£10, new one £40  ).
This bodge saved a possible £120 (£80 recovery, £40 hose) Or at least an hours wait (AA)
