What I need is Vulcan,
Hey, I tried what you said, put your hand down the rear low down and just pull up and fold forward.
The trouble is I am not superman.
I started by pushing the seat belt straps threw the holes to get them out of the way.
What goes wrong next is that as you start to lift up at the rear your hand then gets trapped.
But, I got it up on one end a bit but the o/s seemed not to want to lift at all.
Still I dont want to convert into a van, I was just wondering how it all moves together.

When people are playing with their cars, can you look at the rear seat the part you sit on and look at the front underneath edge.
On all three estates the leather is just loose about the centre of car and underneath.
So I throught well they must be like that.
So I then when to the saloon car and blow me that is not.
The seat consists I thinking of three items. The meatal pan then the foam them the leather clovering.
Feeling underneath the steel pan seems to have a lip running all the way along.
I thinking does the leatherwork clip into this steel rim.
thanks to anyone that can help.
At the end of the day, it could be left as you don't know unless you get down on one knee and look underneath.

The Leather has got a trim cliip on it which does in fact clip onto the edge of the metal seat pan as you state....All the awy around it. . If you need pictures of it let me know.....

My Saloon was the same - possibly for the same reason when you lift it forward the cover rubs on the floorpan and comes off - I took mine out to fit leather seats and as my original foam was in better nick I took off the old cover and replaced it with the newer leather one - simple enough to do - just turn it upside down and sit on it, working all the way round - on the car may be a bit tricky!

Thanks for the two replies, very good of you both. At least I now know whats going on.
I not that fussed, because you can't see or detech anythink unless you look for it.
Anyway I think I will leave it until the summer before I start playing around.
So do I need to buy some of those clip, can't see any on the floor etc.
Also do other people find it a real struggle to lift up the seat part.

John, not so much trouble to lift up the seat base, it's getting the d**n thing to go back down whilst trying to keep the seat belt buckles up and out of the way.
The seat cover has the beading running the whole circumference and it is this that hooks over the metal plate....strong fingers are needed but once on the run....quite easy done.
the main reason I do not lift my rear seat is that I found it rubs the centre of the seat when trying to refit it....too much hassle....

Simon.. if you clip the seat belt buckles into the three little slots in the seat back they hold them nicely in place while you put the seat base back down.
John, odd but I have never found any problem in lifting my seat base on the hinge, haven't yet trapped my hand in it at all. It just comes up really easy...

i cant seem to get my rear seat up either seems like its fixed permanant i thought they would have little straps which when grabbed hold of it would lift up no probs

thanks again, i will have another look when it get warmer.
I will not need to lift seat ever, because i have no need to.
but if you have a frade seatbelt (the long webbing) that needs changing, the belt is bolted just underneath it, seems you would then.
But I will in the summer get the seat out if only to refit the leather cover.
But I got a clear picture now of the situation, so thanks to all.

there are two leather straps at each end of the back seat and should be easy to find. We can have a look when I bring the new rear panel for you over the weekend

I don't think the base is meant to lift up on estates as it does on saloons, That is why it is so tight compared to the saloon.
The replies you have had from those that say it is easy are from saloon owners.

the seats on my estate are a pain to lift. The only reason i lift them is to remove the lower seat to re-fit the bl**dy cover (leather) which keeps unclipping itself

Good of you AndyJones. so you have the same trouble, well you tell them, (o, you just have) I don't want them others thinking that I am completely useless.
But Hey! you say that the front of the leather keeps coming un done.
The others are saying that it when you lift the seat base up and fold it forward onto the tunnel that's how it comes off.
So how do you replace it without taking the seat base out the car.
I just wonder if you get in and sit forward on the centre, does that push the seat down enough to be able to feed on the leather to the lip on the metral base.

when you get the cover back on, tap all the way round the cover clip/track with a hammer. mines hasn't moved in 18 months.

hi John. its best to remove the lower seat as this makes it more easy to re-clip the cover on. Ive found that if you only re-clip the front with the seat inplace its normally undone at the side were you can not get at. I to have tried tapping the trim with a hammer which lasted a bit longer but this has now came off again.

well when the weather gets better I will have to get it out to look.
When you say it keeps coming off. is that because you carry passengers in the back. and when they sit down it comes off.
or do you mean it comes off when you raise the seat and fold it forward.

no mate. it seems to un-clip itself when people sit on it. Sad thing is that its mostly my two girls (aged 10&13) who sit on it most and they weigh nothing
