How long to change a steering rack.

Hi anybody gat any ideas how long it would take a mechanic to change a steering rack on my 2.5TD ultima.

When mine needed doing the garage quoted 3 hours labour (small independent not Fords).
In the end I did it myself and it took about 4 hours start to finish.

I did mine on my 95 16v 2.0L in about 1 1/2 hours, and that included removing the roll bar.
Sounds a bit high for a garage that would have the tools, lift and expertice!

The last one I did took about 2 hours from start to finish,
If you access to a ramp then I STN tells it right about one hour!
Oh for a ramp again!

Hi Snoops ..yes you're right ..the question was how long for a mechanic to do it ..so I did assume a ramp .... STN

Yes you have to charge the guy for the 'tidying up' before you can start! 
So in most cases about 3 hours ..............if the garage is tidy 8 if if its NOT
