Dash Light bulbs to LED's. Ice Blue

Check this guy out on Ebay. He sells the Ford Twistlock Dash Lights in different coloured bulbs and LED's. The latter are flat-topped so as to produce a wider refraction of light and not be so directional as normal domed LED's. I have just ordered the complete amount to convert the Scorp. (I already did the elec window/Heated screen switches by manual painstaking soldering of LED + Resistors!) http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DashLights 13 x 5mm Twistlock 4 x 10mm Twistlock

I've already started as well, managed to do the heated screen switches and the window switches. Been looking around to see where to get the bulbs for dash etc regards Paul

I've heard some people say after all the expense and fitting, that the LED's are rather disappointing and the 150 year old Edison bulb technology is superior .

Yes, its true that even the wide angled leds will not produce enough projected light to illuminate things like the dashboard, but i will give it a whirl, if it doesn't look right, i'll change them back, but i have to say, the blue looks much better in the car imo. Once they are all done i'll post some pics regards Paul

The windows switches look nice, but the heated windscreen light is to bright, i think it will distract when driving. Maybe adding a resistor in series with it will reduce the power.

You can also defuse the light by adding a bit of super glue to the LED. The chemicals in the glue frost the plastic, cutting down on a lot of glare

Will post pics when they arrive + have been fitted. The window switches look pretty cool and are more or less the same brightness the old bulbs were (but blue). A resistor was fitted inline too. Looks like i have been beaten to the rest anyways Note the Aircon Panel has a bulb out that is awaiting replacement. Donnie, allow a good evening to do the window switches. Make sure you note which one comes from where if you remove them all first. I found some werent interchangeable + didnt work with different loom sockets after much head scratchin'! Make sure the correct polarity of the LED legs are noted. It helps to be quite handy with a soldering iron too.

The glare is just the postioning of the camera, doesn't look anywhere near as bright as that when driving and all leds have a resistor in line. Haven't done much more than you, leftofcentre, at the same stage i reckon. All now depends on dash, if that doesn't look right, then the green go back in regards Paul

think i will wait till you have finished andy, im sure it will look great when its finished, but can you really get everything blue? or will there still be some green out there... ie cigarette lighter surround, etc? I suppose the heater and light switches will still be green, or is there a way around that too? donnie

I dunno mate. Will have to wait + see tho i guess. Depends on your comittment i suppose + whether u really want to replace the LED's in the Aircon switch/Autobox mode switches etc. You do know that if you dont fancy LED's then that guy on Ebay above sells coloured normal bulbs. You can also get a blue LED festoon for the interior lights too.

im keen to try some out,but the council insist i have white illumination for the interior lighting, i suppose its only for the roof tho... i dont see the taxi regs stretching to underseat lighting, and puddle lights i could do the window switches, etc, but i really want the dash to match it, and it i start it, its not going back together till i finish it, so i want to see how you get on first andy, and then i will decide. has anyone here replaced the leds for the climate temp display? also, what about the lcd displays on the dash for mileage etc? donnie

Maybe bring the car over to show you sometime? Drakies isnt it? Not stalking mate Honest Seen ur motor on the #4 busroute. Dont worry i made an extra wide berth!

My local scrappy has a spare instrument panel going for pennies, I think I may get it and try a few things out. Im quite handy with electronics especialy the opto side and have a few ideas for a custom array build. This could get messy

The problem we are going to encounter is the cc panel and light switch surround. They are made with the green colouring actually in the plastic and any attempt to scratch it off removes the switch icons too, so unless the blue is bright enough to shine through the green without showing up we are going to have a problem me thinks regards Paul
