CC Diagnostics mode how?

I have read and tried the suggested method of getting into the climate controls diagnotics system, but I am failing to get in.
Both reculate and a/c buttons are working, CC is also working fine, but I can't get into the built in diagnostics. It seems unlikely, but were there any alternative methods used over its years of production?

I have now got into the diagnostics.
The press for 10 seconds, was more like a need to press for 20 and I must have ben glancing at the display too quickly. It flashes the 00 for a short time, then moves back to its -- quite quickly.
00, no probelms there then
