2-3 98 Head off. How to Please

After removing the cat, adding oil flush etc, i have decided the only way forward with my noisy engine is remove the head. is there a how to section or link somewhere i could read, i have done a 2-0 8 v head before, it now sounds as if a piston is hitting the head under load, is this physically possible?
