Newbie - advice needed

Hi all, been lurking on the site for a couple of weeks now and it is great. Just been given a Scorp and much advice is needed, but I will start with the important stuff. It's a 98 (S), 2.9 but not sure of the model (need to check the vin against the diagram on the site), it has 71k on the clock. my first priority is to sort out the drivers seat, it has lost it's fixing at the front right hand side and therefore lifts during driving (it is currently held in place with some cable ties !), so I could really do with some advice on removing the seat (not something I have done before). Secondly the aircon doesn't work, should I get it re-gassed? And lastly for now, I want to spray the rear bumper, so some advice on prepping and painting (products etc.) would be much appreciated. Thanks for now, Neil.

Have a look here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/seatsmanual.htm Note the warning on that page: “Please follow the advice contained in the Airbags manual. Any disconnection of the seats containing side airbags, or any of the pyrotechnic seatbelt tensioners, should only be attempted after disconnecting the battery for twenty minutes, or serious injury could result” Is it one of the foreward facing torx bolts? You should be able to replace that without removing the seat 8mm I think. Dave

Thanks Dave will have a look at that link, would love to fix it without removing the seat. But what the hell is a torx bolt? What should I be looking for. I have taken a peek under the seat and it looks as if there are two adjacent holes on the underside without bolts. BTW - just looked at the VIN plate and the model box is blank, how do I tell what model I have got for the insurance? From what I can see it is a Ghia or Ghia X but the log book just states Ford Scorpio.

Hi. a Torx bolt is just like a normal bolt but with a splined head instead of the usual Six sided hex shape. Sounds like someones removed them and not replaced them or lost them If its a 98 build it will be a Ghia X as this was the basic spec by then. It will also be the 24v as the 12v was discontinued in the early part of 97 If you pm me your reg no I can tell you the full spec (as will your insurance company)

Thanks Highlander, there is definitely something wierd then, it was first registered 4th December 1998, but the vin plate code definitely indicates 12V! I have e-mailed you the reg. no. (couldn't see the pm button anywhere), insurance company cannot tell me the exact model from the reg.

| I have had a closer look, and to be honest I can't see what the hell is going on under there, the bolts I thought were missing at first glance are actually there , all seems well and good with the runner etc. but the chair is still lifting. Any ideas what my next move is or where I need to look. On the topic of the a/c are there any easy check that I can make before I call in the experts?

The seat is also bolted to the runner frame, is it possibly this bolt thats missing? does the frame lift or just the seat?
