Ominous gearbox(?) knock

2.9 12v auto has developed an ominous knock from the torque converter/gearbox area on startup/tickover. Can't hear it on the road and box is behaving normally. Any ideas please? A prognosis would be useful as MOT is due now and tax at the end of the month

take starter off and check torque converter nuts are tight in the drive plate
