24v isnt it Dan? Gasket sets on ebay for around £70 i think, its not too bad a job to do if you give yourself a weekend and take your time. Dunno what a garage would charge but it would likely be frightening p.s. whats your mechanic seeing to suggest the gaskets going??

I've had my matrix cleaned. he said there was a little oil in the water. I doubt he is skamming me. he charged me 20 pound for an oil and filter change with fully synthetic oil. I would struggle to get the oil and filter for that money.

Such a cynic! We all know these garages are such honest places too... Dont let him change the head gasket if its a just a ballooned rad, thats often what gets the blame..

Yes but not on the cars at the minute I've spent the whole weekend (7am to 2am yesterday) fitting curtain poles, light fittings, towel rails, blinds, pictures, mirrors etc in a new house (you know the drill) and much as i'd like to be out in the garage it would severely lower my life expectancy if i did so
