cossie fuse box removal and replacement

hi there peeps, i am new to the site and have a scorpio cossie 97 reg.. it has been a great car and performed faultlessly until around 4 months ago when all hell broke loose with the different electrics on the car.. the cruise control grew a mind of its own, this was especially scary when on the motorway cruising at 75mph and a car coming up in front i pressed the brake to cancel it and it wanted to keep going i had to keep pressing the button on the steering wheel and after 5 pushes it went off.. i haven't used it since.. the tail lights stopped working, the fuel consumption died going to 10mpg or something of the like with HUGE clouds of smoke coming out the back.. so i took the car to ford and had them do a diagnostics check (£75)... they said the aux fuse box the one thats located under the steering wheel to the right is broken and after speaking to some mechanics they said the car is prone to having water leak through and knacker it up... i have bought a new one and just need to know how to remove the one on the car and bolt this one on,... i have pulled the dash back and put my arm up felt the bolts but have no idea how i would get a spanner on there to remove the 4 bolts or how the hell i would put the new fuse box on.. if anyone has got any tips or suggestions at all then please inform me cheers..

Hello and welcome to the site 
Lying upside down in the drivers footwell is the best bet, remove the drivers seat if necessary.
A long extension and a socket is the best bet

Bob.
Get a mirror in the footwell with a lamp,focus the mirror on the underside of the fusebox,as Highlander says a long extension with a 10mm socket is favourite.Being an old geyser this is how I have to do it ! That fuse box is the main box,the aux one is by the battery.

GOZZ beat me to it. If they SAID the AUXILLARY fusebox then it is the other side of the car. That is the one which causes trouble if the battery cover is not fitted. It is also the one which lets water run in to the passenger footwell via the large grommet in the bulkhead and on to the 'black box' if the drain holes are clogged up. Have you had water in either footwell??.

Make sure there's a lot of beer or other favourite drinks available before starting this project. It's not one of the most enjoyable ones.
