Unusual Difference on Galaxy 2.3

I was at a Galaxy meetup on Saturday. Three of us had 2.3's the other guys had MK1's and looking at their engines I saw that they have Coil on plug like the scorpio's.
My MK2 Galaxy has a coil pack mounted at the right hand ( rear ) of the engine.
I can think of no good reason other than cost for reverting to a coil pack.. Must have been the influence of the Germans at VW.

I know of a Silver 2.3 Scorpio Estate in Glasgow with the same set up

they changed the the setup to keep the coils and wiring cooler.this was a big problem on 2.0 16v and 2.3 16 v but never a problem on 2.0 8v with the coils and wireing in the front

hi there
i think you'll find that the silver estate in question is back to near normal! still has vauxhall plugs and yellow/blue tape (hidden under grey plastic cable tubing), though. 
not sure about bikerdon's though. it might have a coilpack on the side now.

Well it did have a coil on the side for a while, but it's back to standard again. Electrics sorted now. Will get parts back to you shortly scorpio_man.
