Been having a bit of trouble with the alarm going off recently. It might wait a few hours (usually middle of the night  ) before it goes off, or it may start sounding after a few minutes.
Obviously my first thought is the bonnet switch, but how can you check this ?...... & if I disconnect it, will it just start beeping anyway ? 
What about the two sensors mounted inside the car, adjacent to the door pillars...are these particularly problematic ?
Advice please

if you disconnect the bonnet switch the alarm won't even arm so there is no way it will start beeping

Jon. How about removing the switch and bridging the terminals?. I assume the alarm is triggered by a 'break' in the circuit but a check with a meter would confirm. If the switch appears to work correctly try a small piece of packing in the unit on the bonnet itself just to increase the pressure on the switch.

Cheers guys for the advice .....A continuity check of the bonnet switch seems to say there is nothing wrong with it & it's switching fine. I suppose there is always the chance that it decided not to play up while I was testing it , so for the moment I've unplugged it & bridged the connector.
Just have to wait & see if it goes off again

Damm!!! so far all quiet on her Escort, I think it is boot related as it has 3 plungers in the tail gate and one keeps sticking. found if I unlock the boot with key after car locked it seems to work. Not much use to oyu though JC

Might be able to read it through OBD if you're at the Kent meet, although there may be some old codes,(mine often shows 3 boot related codes).
Since you have the internal sensors, I read somewhere about someone having their car alarm go off at night - went out with a torch & saw a moth flying about inside.

Jon. Have you tried spraying all the door locks?. The only other thing that sometimes causes problems is the contacts in them. If it is 'your' car then all the doors presumably get used regularly but it may be worth a try. As Dave says could the boot/hatch be the cause if it not absolutly tight. Again , I guess yours would get a fair bit of use and thus may be a bit 'loose'.

Right then, checked the boot lock & it's fine & all wiring is on tight, the door locks seem fine although I haven't removed the door cards to check for any loose wiring yet.
One thing I did find though was that if I doubled locked myself in the car with the key fob (couldn't get out) & moved my hands over the motion sensors, the alarm didn't go off .....so am I to presume that the motion sensors aren't working ?....possibly they are non-motion sensors
I've disconnected them both for the moment to see how it goes....play it by ear
Incidently, with both motion sensors disconnected the flash on double lock still works, so it's still armed

Fingers crossed it stays that way & that it was down to faulty motion sensors
Just a thought, I'm presuming the alarm is still set with the motion sensors unplugged as the flash on double lock is working, but how do I make sure...ie set the alarm off without breaking anything ?

Or, I would imagine, leave the window open, lock the door, reach in & open the door.

Don't think I'll replace them, as they seem a bit pointless .......Instead, I've got a much better idea
They may come in useful for a fake CCTV setup.......a small hole drilled in each one with a wired up red LED sticking out & black plastic covers over the sensors would look quite convincing I reckon ....
A couple of window stickers informing people that 'This vehicle is equipped with CCTV' & I reckon all the drunken yobs that get in will behave like angels & be more than willing to pay what the meter says
