Please can someone advise me if the exterior door handles and door wiring harnesses are the same as a saloon on an estate

I couldn't see any difference in the catalogues(www.elcats.ru/ford , ford-xpert.com has disappeared and was much better BTW) between saloon & estate doors/handles/looms. There was changes in many components (not in the door itself) 6/96, atleast two finis are used. But make sure the "donor" is the same year model + same or higher trim level, you probably don't want a feature of the door missing.

There are two different door loom multiplugs too, not compatible, probably the change mentioned above
