vacuum valve behind o/s headlight.

Now I have found a vacuum valve behind the drivers side headlight, it has 2 pipes and a plug on it. I could hear a hiss just after I turned the engine off, but it seems to be letting in air while the engine is running as well. Is this how its ment to work , what it for. Car is a 98 facelift cosworth.

It might be the solenoid valve for the purging of the sealed fuel system,at set periods it opens and empties the leak off canister near the petrol tank via the inlet manifold. It should not leak. GOZZ.

I would like to put a photo on but not very good at that sort of task. Now its next to the abs unit and there is a round canister next to it. If I can twist my sons arm I see if I can get a photo.

I had found that layout but the valve is a lot different to look at. Good news I have found the problem, the pipes to the valve, no 92ac9h456-aa, are different lengths and the connections are also different lengths and at sometime had been put on wrong. How long its been like this I dont know, its been in for a spray job as he got the wrong colour last time and they might have knocked them off, but no hissing now. Also I cant recall that the fuel tank being under vacuum when I have filled up, so may have been like it for some time.

you should get a hiss when you open the fuel cap, but if the purge canister wasnt piped up correctly it could be that or the EVAP isnt working correctly
