Temperature Gauge sender

Hello All,
 
I need to replace the the Temperature Gauge sender; are there any particular problems to look out for?
 
I have done the checks outlined elswhere on the site and it is definately the sender that is at fault.
 
One other issue. I get a shower off the corner of the boot lid when it is opened after rainfall. Is this a design fault?

What engine is your car?
 
and yes, as for the boot soaking you everytime you open the lid, it is a design fault although I always thought that Ford built it in for a laugh!! Grin

My car is a 2.3 Ultima.
Actually most of the water goes into the boot and often splashes neatly into the multichanger!

22mm socket and short extension,do it when cold and coolant loss will be small.Do NOT overtighten,a firm nip is all that is required as the thread is very small and tapered.Much damage is done by overtightening of both sensors,causing pulling out of the brass bosses that are bonded into the plastic manifold.

With regards to the water ingress, I once fitted two strips of rubber to the edge of the boot lid that folded in when the boot was shut, but were long enough to flick out wider than the boot opening. It worked fine and stopped most of the water flooding into the boot and instead; let it drip down the outside of the rear wings!!

I've had this car for about 6 months now and apart from an auto box problem, (posted about that long ago in the Problems section) which I've learned to live with for just now I love it!
 
Incidently, because I've got to  treat the box with respect - through the 2nd to 3rd shift at least - I get really good MPG.

Senders vary in position according to the type of engine to which they are fitted.You should be able to obtain information from the relevant information on this site.Should you be unable to locate it,someone will enlighten you once your engine type is known.
