Alarm goes off

Hi, having recently had the battery off on charge whilst away on holiday, when i connect it back it sets the alarm off, any ideas why and how to stop it happening,

Have you tried the normal route of just locking and unlocking the car with the battery connected?

Just a guess but it could be because the bonnet is open as you are working and thus the bonnet switch is activated.Close the bonnet and try Matt's suggestion. I'd leave a window open just in case there is more of a problem.
