24v o/s front lambda sensor

Which is the best way to access the o/s front lambda sensor, from under the bonnet or underneath the car? I did a "dry run" today and removed the o/s heat shield but couldn't see much of an advantage. Would it be better accessed from underneath and what needs taking off? TIA Tony
