So no one knows then  ! it used to work on the cigar lighter in a W plate galaxy 2.3.
Now used the wire with clamps direct to battery and it seems fine.

From memory the cigar lighter sockets are 'live' without the ignition on so no reason why it wouldn't work. If the lighter works it will?
