Car wont crank after being driven! PATS issue?

Hi all, weird problem this. After a major rewire my Scorpio wont crank over. Traced the problem to a lack of earth being provided to the inhibitor relay by the car/PATS? when key is turned. Fitted a manual earth wire to relay (leg no 85) cranks and starts no problem when wire is earthed to body. Car will then crank and start as normal on the key every time without the need for the earth wire again - until it is driven - after which then you have to earth the relay once only again and the cycle is repeated. It is almost like earthing the relay is resetting something in the car to make it crank and start as normal until it is driven which then undoes the reset and withholds the earth to the relay again. Could this be a PATS issue? Any ideas how to fix anyone?
