Fog Light Pests!!

They are always there, but just loom as a much bigger PITA now the dark evenings are here. I am referring to those mindless drivers who always have their fog lights on with their headlights. It is illegal (as I understand it) to use foglights unless the weather calls for them, and drivers can be prosecuted. I wish some of them would be as, prompted by the excellent posts on replacement headlamp bulbs on this site and the consequent risk of dazzling on-coming traffic, I couldn't help but respond with my own opinion that the permanent fog-lighters do it all the time. I live in the country, and am regularly dazzled by 4 white lights coming at me when 2 would be more than enough. It often forces me to slow down (with no street lights or road markings to help), and this on lovely, dry, clear nights. And it's not just the boy racers or people with modern cars. People of all ages and both sexes and with cars of all ages seem to have adopted this mindless, selfish habit/fashion. Why??!! What an earth is the point. They just make themselves absolute (and illegal) pests, and there is no long distance illumination offered by fog lights as it is simply not what they are for. I used to flash them, but they are now so numerous I don't bother as I just seem to be wasting my time - as well as reducing the life of my own bulbs. What do others think? Roger.

Totally agree with you Roger, What also gets me is the others that use thier rear fogs in the rain, not so much of a nuisance but very dangerous as you can't see these mindless people braking.

It's so refreshing to find that someone else gets mad about those pra£s. I've been raving about this since the d@mned things were inflicted on us years ago. Front fog lights are only any good when you cannot drive without them at more than 10MPH in the dark and rear fogs are only really useful in daytime fog. Its a pity that those twits that inflicted them on us didn't think to address their efforts at establishing some meaningful standards for all lighting instead of adding to the problem. The trouble is that they are now being sold as combined driving/fog lights. I've been driving about 50K per year for as long as I can remember and, apart from returning the complement to idiots, I've only found it necessary to use rear fogs 3 times and, of that, I was amazed to find that I was the only one using them in daylight fog, visibility 10 yards. I,ve not found the front fogs necessary since the real smog we used to have in the 60's. The trouble is that the idiots seem to think that they have to use them and never actually engage brain. And what about those clowns who drive at 100 + with their rear fogs on ? Aaaaghh . Get me my pills someone!!!

Do I understand you to mean that there are actually members of this group who are permanent fog-lighters??!! I don't believe it! Driving the Scorpio I thought we were among the more 'professional' type of road user! Are any of our members letting us down?

| Me, immature? NAH! Anyway, you started it! I have had my fogs on a few times before but no, I don't do that all the time. Just like to check they're still working from time to time, that's all.
