Bye Old Mate

Well, today is 'the morning after' and things are not feeling any easier. Yesterday morning, my old dog had (I think) a stroke in the night and had to be rushed up to the vets. Sadly, he was in quite a bad way and there was nothing they could do to help him. So, the dreaded deed was done. And now me old mate's gone I don't want to sound like a big girls blouse, but I really do have a tear in my eye and my fingers are shaking while I'm typing this. We got him as a rescue dog in November 1991. We think he was about 9 months old then, so he's had a good old time and we knew it was only a matter of time. But it still doesn't make it any easier. I'm really going to miss him - I do already! I hope he's at peace now. I buried him in the garden at my mum's (next to our old Border Collie). They loved eachother to bits. OK, I have to go... Thanks for listening Max 91-04 (R.I.P)

I know how you are feeling, when my Grey Tom cat died a month or so ago I felt it badly. All I can say is that it gets easier as the days go by, not much help now I know... don't feel ashamed to shed a tear or two, it does help..... Max

Been there only too recent Paul - sympathies mate! This helped us! I wrote your name into the sky, But the wind blew it away. I wrote your name into the sand, but the waves washed it away. I wrote your name into my heart, And forever it will stay. Author: Jason Graham Regards Daven

I am sorry to hear of your loss. Having been in the same position many times it is very hard. I also have two rescue dogs who mean a great deal to me and dogs i have had in the past who are gone but not forgotten. We can only be thankful for the memories ant

No problems Paul, Smudge still touches our lives and not a day goes past when we don't think of him...just the thing of when we are sitting late at night and we would hear the tinkle of his bell as he came in through the back cat door... sometimes when I am sitting alone I still hear that tinkle.. not real I know but any sound just like it spurs the memory. When you hit my age (larf) you don't have many real friends and the pets seem to do the job.. They are our good friends who don't have any preconceptions... they love us cos we are there....no worries..no conditions... Smudge was my mate and always will be.. no matter how many more animals we have in the future... he has a place in my heart.. as will your Max to you.. and I will never forget him In this way to me he is immortal and is always there...

Paul, Im really sorry to hear about ur loss . Pets are an integral part of a family and such a loss is hard to deal with. Fortunatly for ur dog, u rescued him and gave him a life he wished for. People who abandon/cause cruelty or just get bored after a while dont deserve to live as far as im concerned. I hope Maddy is ok as well. You have my number/e-mail.............. Take care both Nick & Lynn

Cheers mate. I'm feeling better about things at the moment. Still miss him terribly of course and will do for some time but, as you say, I realise that we gave him a chance and he ended up having a great life. Anyway, sorry I haven't been in touch over the past few days or more Hope you and Lynn are ok. Oh, and how's your new addition settling in to the madhouse?

Didnt really want to say given the circumstances of this posting but seeing as you asked he is settling in really well. He has never seen stairs before so they are a concern for him and he barks at himself in the mirror which is funny. He is showing his character bit by bit and we are so glad we have given him a home. His name is Beau after the song Mr Beau Jangles http://www.rgtperrybarr.org.uk/images/Enlargements/Beau.jpg Take care m8y Nick

Ahh, that's really good to hear. Max was a bit dopey like that at times, but it just makes them all the more adorable I reckon. I thought he was Beau as in Tur-beau!
