Did anyone see Watchdog investigating Kwik Fit last night?? Trying to charge people £100's of pounds for completely unnecessary work. (between £600-£700 seems to be the norm) or charging for work that is never done I wasn't surprised as they apparently work on a commission system where the fitters get a percentage of whatever they can sell but I was surprised by the sheer scale of the problem! "These findings are marginally worse, albeit with a smaller sample, than those following the recent garage investigation carried out by consumer organisation Which?. Their mystery shopping exercise involved 62 cars with pre-existing faults where they found the following 'shocking levels of incompetence' and 'inexcusable dishonesty' in UK garages and dealerships." Only 8 out of the 62 garages did the job properly 90% of garages missed (or ignored) at least one potentially dangerous fault 39% charged for topping up screen wash unnecessarily 48% garages failed to top up low brake fluid levels 68% didn't re-inflate the flat spare tyre 57% didn't spot that a reversing light had blown 21% didn't rectify low pressure in the nearside rear tyre

I think Kwik Fit's slogan is something like "you'd be surprised what we do",looks like their customers are now surprised by what they don't do .I am pleased that Watchdog did that, now a few more people will take notice maybe.I have personally never trusted any of those conglomerates or main dealers.Any organisation that advertises 'in your face' is trying to beat the opposition, therefore are bound to have lower standards than a proper garage, they can't get decent staff because their grasping operations mean the payment of peanuts,on which the employees cannot live without the aforementioned commission racket. To me they resemble a highly painted school bus that keeps losing it's wheels.

Quick Fit will rip you off for hundreds of pounds on work you DO need as well. Having motor trade contacts, i know the real price of things and when i go for repairs or noew tyres on my works van (as we use KF for fleet maintenace) i nearly choke when i see the prices they charge for parts. Generally, the local ones employ half trained monkeys who have one speed (glacial) on the speed dial - its not unknown for t he replacement of 2 transit tyres to take OVER 6 hours. Assuming they actually HAVE the most commonly fitted commercial LCV tyre in stock....

Yeah robbin S**S. I had a screw in my tyre and i was going to take to my normal tyre place, ( 2 old boys been doing it for years ) but it was near 5 o'clock and wasn't sure what time they shut. Anyway because of the traffic and kwik fit was on the way i thought i would pop in and see what they say. The young lad said he wasn't sure and he would ask the manager, the manager said " oh no we can't fix that it's too close to the edge, it's in the mushroom area" Well the screw was about 1 1/2" to 2" from the edge and as for the mushroom area never heard of that. So i says " I'll leave it till tomorrow" The youg lad who first looked at it said " shall i pull it out to see if any air comes out". I said " no Leave it" Then the manager comes and say's " Did you ask for a quote on a new tyre sir".( I never mentioned anything about a quote ) I told him, i said that i would wait untill tomorrow. So I goes up to the old boys where i normally go and they were still open, He took one look at the tyre and say's "yep we can fix that" I asked him "is it too close to the edge" "nope" his reply. So he pulls the screw out and luckily enough it didn't go all the way through. 1, Is that a common term " The mushroom area " 2, Trying to sell me a new tyre when there was no need. Disgracefull They should be banned from trading, There nothing but a bunch of amatures and scoundrels ( wish we had a spell check on here )

My daughter went there this week for an MOT and they failed it on minor things like light adjustment(11.95 to adjust) needing new windscreen wipers @ 23.95 a pair even though they were only replaced 3000 miles ago and poor rear brakes/ stroke handbrake which worked fine. They said that they could not put the emissions probe into the exhaust ( I put a wheel brace up it, no problem) and there was a massive exhaust leak. There wasn't one when the car was taken in , the tester had punched a hole through the rusty part of the rear box then wanted 65.50 for a new one. Told my daughter to leave the premises and brought the car to me. Ten minutes work then into local garage and hey presto a new MOT. I complained and got nowhere when the area manager called me. The customer is certainly not king with them!!!!

The 'Mushroom area' is probably a Kwik Fit employee's secret phrase used for when they are comparing gullible customers with the best way to grow mushrooms..... .....Keep them in the dark & feed them s**t Going away from Kwik Fit, although this may possibly be their policy as well ......Mr Clutch had a couple of vacancies for clutch fitters in the local paper a few years ago & it said 'no experience necassary, full training given' Unfortunately for me, I saw this after I took my old 2.0 manual Scorp to them for a new clutch & they fitted it so badly that it kangaroo'ed like mad & bent the gearbox input shaft. I Ended up having to have a new gearbox & new clutch fitted at a proper clutch fitters. Mr Clutch denied all responsibilty.....They said that there must have been a problem with the gearbox before I took it in ....I only had a slipping clutch when I took it there I thought about sueing them at the time, but once the car was sorted out & going fine again, I really couldn't be bothered with the hassle I just put it down to experience & made a note to never use this company ever again & never recommend them to anyone P.S....My old 2.0 didn't have a duel mass flywheel/clutch, it was an early Scorp, so had the old Granada clutch....Mr Clutch couldn't even do something this simple

i have read plenty of horror stories just on this site about quick fit ,so ive always given them a swerve. its disgracful what they get up to ive always stuck to the same mechanic since ive been driving with just one exception , when i first bought my range rover i took it to a r/r specialist for a full service ................................tp say i was stunned by the bill is an understatment {687 quid as your asking:_) ] so from then on it was back to my mechanic!!!!!
