Immobiliser

Can anybody please help?
My son's car is a P reg. Rover 420i. The immobiliser has packed up, works intermitantly taking up to 30mins of turning the ignition key before she starts up,  . Does anybody on here know how to disable it? It aparantly costs a fortune to have it repaired.
