Hi I've just discovered this website today and i think its great.... didnt know such a thing existed until i came online to get some information on how to replace the aux fuse box which had water leaking into it causing the wires and connections to corrode..... Also recently I am having to top up the engine oil quite regularly after only a couple of hundred miles drive. what could be the problem and can someone advice me please how to fix? I think there seems to be an oil leak somewhere in the engine?...... One other thing, can the boot be opened from inside the car without using the remote.... Thanks

Hi Zua and welcome to the forum. I guess you already found this link http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fusebox2.htm Usually people that have this problem have a car without a battery cover which also keeps the auxillary fuse box dry. I guess you will see from the forum that there are a lot of people who have experienced some of the solutions to problems that can occur with a Scorp.. With regard to your oil consumption, generally increased consumption may be either down to a leak or linked to wear or sometimes both. Sometimes it can be as simple as a poor seal or a leaking drain plug. First some questions. You say you think you have an oil leak, if so is it visible and if so whereabouts? Do you find traces of oil on the floor? Alternatively is your Scorp burning oil? Do you see a grey haze in your rear view mirror? When you start the engine, does the oil pressure warning light clear almost immediately? Any initial clatter on start up? How many miles on the clock? Does the engine run smoothly? Finally how long have you had the car, if for a while, is this a recent thing? If you can post up some more symptoms I am sure you will get lots of ideas. Finally theres no boot release in the Scorpio, you either need to use the key or the remote. Good luck with your fusebox and hopefully happy motoring. Geoff_W

HI There and welcome. Firstly it is essential you have a plastic battery cover which prevents rain water getting into the fusebox. I left my cover off after a battery change and paid the price by having to get a new fusebox. I think you are talking of the other fusebox on the offside, make sure the cover is seated properly. As for excess oil usage its difficult to say without knowing where its coming from. Hopefully its not oil burn which may indicate a worn engine. Does the exhaust gas look ok or is it smokey. If its leaking oil try to pinpoint the leak.sounds like its leaking quite a lot. Maybe just a blown gaskit or could be an oil seal. I have the same engine and I have a very minor leak from the crankshaft oil seal. Its not by any chance leaking from either the drain plug or the oil filter which is at the back of the engine. Sorry not much to go on here but others will have some ideas. Regards Rich
