Question: 'S' Reg Non-facelift???

Hi all, Again, more of a question than a problem, but there's an 'S' Reg Ultima Estate on Autotrader which isn't a facelift model. I wondered why this might be; surely a late '98 car ought to be a facelift... I thought it could either be "old stock" not registered until the 'S' plate or maybe it's had a front-ender and wasn't fixed up with the right bits... http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD_web/servlet/media?id=136954476 Any other suggestions?

i think you may have answered your own question, the 2 suggestions you have already suggested are the probable 2 ,the facelift grill is becoming obsolete from the dealers,so if it had a front ender this would be true.

Hi nick, I have got an S 99 reg 2.3 and it is a pukka last built by 4rds. wether it was built out of existing left overs or 4rds had a stockpile of pre face-lifts only the experts on this site can tell you, normally by the vin plate. I do know that my car was owned by 4rds for the first part of its life, which I suppose is a bonus... My advice is to check out the vin & HPI just to be sure. Ferret

As you said it could be old stock, or the front ender therory, but unless they where to cheap to put on face lift parts.... Mines a 98 model pre facelift,...must have been sitting in the forecourt for a while. The saloon models are easier to spot because of the different lights at the rear, but you could get hold of its chassis no. and go to a local for garage to find out.

hey baz, that maroom "T" reg car is not yours is it, Yours is Silver I understand. So why is the rear bumper a different shade of Maroom from the rest of the car. Mine is the same, but you have to look like crasy to spot it. So what's happened about colour coding on Maroom cars. The blue cars, the colour coding is spot on. Anyway I prefer the early cars with the chrome. My "S" reg 2.3 Estate is in Atlantic Blue and has the smoked glass headlights, and no chrome around the grill and two open outlets in the front bumper next door to the fog lights, real ugly, compared with the others

We've had cases of cars built and left standing for over a year before being registered for the first time - this can be confusing when ordering parts. It's always best to quote the actual VIN number when ordering rather than the date of first registration. Everyone can check the date of manufacture by checking their VIN plate against http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/vin.htm - the last 2 letters before the actual number gives the month and year it came off the production line. The T-plate Scorpio is interesting. There was a rumour that several hundred unregistered Scorpios had been put into storage by a large leasing company, so perhaps this is one of them coming out into the open.

Hi people Apparently, having rang Ford this afternoon after reading this topic, it is the chrome pre-facelift grille that is now hard to obtain. The painted facelift version is still available and was in stock though at about £200 + vat I won't being buying one for 'just in case'

| That explains the number of pre-facelift cars I've seen on Autotrader that have facelift-style grilles on... Cue: "Why's that not the original grille, mister car salesman...?"

| Whoops I know, Gordon Brown's slice of the action slight omission on the old typing front, far too excited at saving all that money and ye'et I don't actually need one yet, but it was that old fear of eventually needing one and hearing that unmistakable remark so often heared "Sorry mate no longer serviced" ARRGGHH
