Radio just sitting there - all button lights and display panel just flashing - no "code" request, no figures, etc?
Does burst back into life but then blanks again - sounds like a poor connection somewhere.
Any thoughts?

make sure the connections on the front panel that can be clipped off are all ok......
these have been known to cause a few problems,also if you have the "keys",might pay as you say to remove the unit,and check the connections on the back...
