'Rumble' after kickdown?

Hi guys, I've noticed a few times when I've made good use of the kickdown, eg, when I'm joining the motorway, once it goes into top gear, there's a 'rumbling' sound for a second from the rear of the car, it almost sounds like a wheel touching the hard shoulder rumble strip (I thought that's what it was at first). Anyone know what this is? Is it normal, or should I be ready for the back axle to fall off or something??!! Cheers Martin

Martin See this for the well-documented cattle-grid effect: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cattle.htm Many users have reported the experience. It isn't critical - my car exhibits the effect very slightly if I accelerate gently through 50 mph (approx) into overdrive under load e.g. up hill. So I wouldn't panic - yet. Iain C

Many thanks for that - If I'd bothered searching I wouldn't have had to mither! That's a relief, anyway, as long as the gearbox isn't about to fall out, I can put up with it! Like I said, it only happens when I drive 'vigorously' anyway!
