discovered this morning (haven't driven the car for some time),that there is a small (annoying) knocking noise when the steering wheel is turned, seem to remember i had exactly the same problem on my granada scorpio, and if i remember there was a dry steering joint somewhere in the cabin....... anybody experienced the same symptoms..

Hi Craig Some months ago, I felt a knock through the steering column of my vehicle when turning on almost full lock at low speed. Cured, by chance, when front wheels were re-aligned. I don't think that there was any extra lubrication applied at the time. However, the knock was not apparent in the normal run of driving, so maybe this wouldn't apply to what you've experienced ... hi ian... thanks for that, but i think my dilemma is different.... if i just sit in the car, without the engine running, and turn the wheel 90 degree's in each direction, you can hear (as well as slightly feel) a very slight knock....

Could also be a track rod end or suspension strut lower ball joint as they are more likely to fail being exposed to the elements.

quick update, and a note to other members.... solved the problem today, after havng a look around myself, and not finding nothing at all, took it to my usual garage, now when they replaced the hose between rack and reservoir (regarding the TSB to this effect),all it was the pinch bolt on the hose (at the rack end),was not fitted exactly right, once moved and tightened appropately (and the full apollogies from the garage),the car is now once again running perfectly,so anyone thinking of changing the hose in question, bear this in mind..... craig..
