Another autobox problem

Hi everybody as you can see I'm a 'newby' on here and was wondering if somebody could give me some advice as to what could be wrong with my autobox. The car is a P reg 2.0 scorpy ultima and when I bought it off ebay I was told that the CC (cruise control) didn't work, I went out in it the other day and 'played around' pressing the CC buttons and to my surprise it worked , I then pressed the brake pedal lightly to turn the CC off which it did BUT on doing this my drive went so I had to just coast onto the hard shoulder and then get the car carried home . It selects reverse ok but there is no forward gears at all, could it have something to do with me 'playing' with the CC as the autobox was fine up to trying the CC. The colour of the gear oil is a mucky brown which I'm sure should be red. Any advice would be much apprectated. Thanks Mike

hi there doesn't sound good the fluid should be a red colour. how's the level? check it with the engine running and up to temp. cycle through the gears 3 times each, then check it with the engine running. you say it takes up drive in reverse, but not forward. what about moving the selector? try the snow setting. that will engage 2nd gear. try starting it in all gears (FOOT ON THE BRAKES! ) does it start? let us know.

Hi Scorpio-man Thanks for the reply, the oil level is fine, just went out and tried the above, when I first selected first gear it did try to move (having to rev the stones of the engine though) but then it gave up and back to only having reverse, I do have to agree with you, 'it's not looking good' is it Mike

OBD =on board diagostics basically if you know someone local with an OBD lead and laptop they can read any fault codes that are stored in the car, this may throw some light on your problems

Would reading the OBD's tell me if it's an elctrical fault ie a CC sensor or wheather it is the box thats packed up? Or is it just shear unlucky that my gearbox has decided to pack up just as I descovered the CC worked?

Thanks for the offer Chris but I'v decided that the car is going back onto ebay for spares as I dont want to spend out for a new box and I dont have the time to fix it plus I just need it out of the road, (full discription in the for sale forum) Mike
