2.9 cologne starting problem

Hi, I have a 2.9 cologne, has been running great for 8 years but after a run the other day, I turned it off for a few minutes, when I tried to restart it, it fired but wouldn't catch on & a strong smell of petrol. After 15 to 20 minutes it started & ran perfectly. This happens every time now. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator with a new one but it is still the same. The engine runs great until it is turned off. Please help, somebody.

Check the distributor and ALL the leads from the coil and distributor cap.... Does sound a bit like damp or a lead breaking down.

It 1st happened on a very hot day & weather doesn't seem to make a difference so don't think it's damp but will check distributor cap & leads, thanks. Will keep you posted. Sounds like an engine temperature or high fuel pressure problem. After so many minutes of trying to start it, it's like a sensor or something clicks in & we're back to normal.
