Does this do anything important?

On my td scorpio the are 2 biggish (multiplug) connectors going from the engine to the car's wiring loom.
There is also a smaller 6 pin rectangle connector with 6 black wires going from it i think to the injector/fuel pump, what does this do/control?

Hi Matt
If can you post a picture of the connector more members will have a better idea of what it is
