Had trouble identifying the paintwork colour this week so went to local Ford Dealer. He looked at VRM + he says the car is painted in Astor Grey. Unusual as the Scorpio apparently didnt come with that option I have been trying to remove a deep scratch from the bonnet (looks like its been "keyed") obtained from the prev owner but without satis results. Ford no longer able to obtain Astor Grey paint however Brown Bros mixed some up for me. Of course its never quite the same match is it! Any ideas what to do now? Do i respray the whole bonnet? Any experts out there on paint procedures?

Painting? Can you get different shades of Astor Grey, if so get the closest. If not close enough then you will have to blend it into the rest by spraying the whole bonnet. Done by spraying the paint thinner & thinner to the side of the bonnet, then spraying the whole bonnet in clear coat. Paint spraying is a art mate, it might be wise to check out a smart repairer or body shop as it could work out cheaper.

| Guess Ford (Macrae + thingy) in Inverness are talking out there arse then! Thought they seemed a little strange as they commented on how the VRM plate in the windscreen was on the wrong side too?? Mine is on drvrs side. Is that not normal? How do you find out what shade it is?

Ask the paint shop if they do it in different shades. As cars get older the paint gets duller or if the paint has been used in production for a number of years then of course there is slightly different shades. Take a sample & try to match it as close as you can to one of the shades. H = High series as in most of the electric gizmo's are fitted. You mean the plate stuck to the dash? Never took much notice can't remember what side they are fitted, drivers I think?

hey andy, i know a couple of excellent paint sprayers in inverness, who i have used myself... Ivor at autocare on harbour rd, mention my name he might even give u a discount and also mike norgate on carsegate rd south, both are very good, and can usually work around you, but at this time of year, its very busy with accidents, etc, and you may have to wait till they clear the urgent stuff! hope all is well with your car mate, hope to meet up with you soon donnie
