First day out in the Scorp.

Well today was the first time we used our Scorpio apart from when we got it MOTed a few weeks ago. What a great old car it is too, good to be back in a Scorpio again ( last one was a 2.9 H reg four years ago!) Well its got a few problems but nothing to bad at the moment. The ABS light is on, this was on when I drove it to the MOT and the guy there said " thats a failure mate" well I got them to mot it anyway in case there was any thing else that needed doing and when they were moting it the light didn't come on so it passed. Since then it has not been on but this week I have had the battery off so maybe it needs to reset? I have looked here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/abslight.htm so I will check the connectors tomorrow but if anyone has any other ideas? I changed the rocker box gaskets yesterday as they were leaking, couldent believe how hard and brittle they were! Must have been on there for years, its not leaking anymore but still stinks of burning oil after a run, hopfully it will burn off after tomorrow planned trip out to Stow on the wold! Theres a bit of a whine from the rear dif but not to bad and I'm sure there are lots of these about so maybe a job for the summer. I have noticed that the windows seem to mist up a bit when the car is left to cool down, hope this is not the heater matrix! but I can't smell antifreeze so maybe its just a bit damp from not being used since the summer. Well thats it! hope its not to boring. I rescued this car from the scrap yard, it was reported to have a blown head gasket but turned out to be the thermostat stuck closed! If anyone has any ideas about the ABS light that would be great..........Mike.

Hi Mike, congrats on the trip out! Couple of quick thoughts: my car also mists up sometimes after a run and my heater matrix is ok, not sure why it does this Thought it was sommat to do with the door seals wither too effective or not good enough (but it doesn't leak)...... Re the ABS, if the light goes out when you start the engine it means that the start up tests are being passed. If it comes on again when you get up to 15 mph or so then it is probably dirty sensors, have a look at the rear ones first as the fronts are difficult to remove. The old oil will burn off after the engine gets hot and stays hot for a while - been there too mate Whine from rear end - got that too, heard some with it quite bad and some don't do it at all, maybe a diff oil change would help. Well done for rescuing the car too, I hope it repays you with reliable motoring Cheers

I love Stow on the Wold.......The little strem running through the village which you have to cross, the bird sanctuary and the last time we were there, there were loads of the metro 6r4's driving through the village. Great sight but no camera. In case you don't know, this was a Metro 6R4: no, don't laugh....its 0-60 time was about 3.5 seconds!! If I remeber rightly, it had a rover V8 with two cylinders taken off and stuck where the back seat was on a normal metro!! I used to work for a metro racing specialists called Howley Racing in Warrington, and we did all the metros for Datapost and everest double glazing and I thought they were quick!!(incidentally, the guy who owned Howley Racing; a chap called John Chappel, was the guy who first introduced K&N air filters to the UK!! Part of my job was to box up the first batches from the states and ship them to dealers around the UK!) So there you are!

I remember them Baz! my old boss had one back in about 1988 it was painted in Leyton house colours. I have just been trying to find a pic of it on google but could only find this one: his escort! It was black back then. [img][/img] Mike.
