A couple of questions

Q1. I have a 12v auto estate. At what revs should the engine be spinning at 70mphHuh

Q2. What could be causing the following...at about 70-80mph, when accelerating to overtake, the power seems to feel a bit on-and-off, as if I am pulsing the pedal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question 2....

Is the car fitted with Traction Control?  If so, perhaps a problem with that? Try switching it off and see what happens.

The 12v does NOT have traction control

At 70 mph the revs should be in the region of 2750.

the reason for the pulsing is beyond me but it could be something as simple as a misfire or a lead breaking down.

The thing with "power seems to feel a bit on-and-off" felt it in my 2.3 quite a lot, after changeing the air and fuel filter it kind of cured it (still has a small one). The next thing is to try and clean the injectors. Under haevy load maybe they are cloged and can't keep up the fueling

Hi, "Power on and off" - sounds familiar...
I have an 8v 2.0 estate which does this.
When you press the accelerator hard, the speed sorts of builds up in stages - don't know of a better way to describe it, sorry.
I've had the car since October and on the day I collected it, changed the air filter and the plugs. I also added some injector cleaner soon after. I checked the MAF and it looked clean so didn't bother brake cleaning it.
Any suggestions on whether there is anything else I need to check? Or is this an idiosyncrasy of the Scorpio?
