spinning dials is a sign of a faulty battery, however, if they return to normal when you tap the dash, then, yes, probably a bad connection. Russ

Hi Trogg, I noticed my instruments going off it as soon as i turned on the ignition and after probably two seconds they carmed down this happened for a couple of days then the car would not start. As russ says a new battery solved it. Have you tried not tapping the dash or does this happen many times after the car has started ie when your driving along? Cheers, Al

Same thing happens on mine when I'm driving. Symptoms start with the speedometer wobbling and then going to zero. After a while it "resets" itself. Sometimes the speedometer doesn't even move when I drive off. I'm guessing a bad connection in the back.

Car would not start this morning (drained by the alarm? - it is used once a week) the speedometer and tacho both flicked back and forward with the speedometer now stuck at 6 o'clock. the tacho works fine but the speedometer just occasionally flicks an inch or so backwards then goes back to 6 o'clock. Are the points being raised about the battery (which was replaced a year ago) relevant or is it in fact the alternator. The charging up of the battery seems ok and the dealer tested the battery with one of those clever little devices about 6 weeks ago. Any help would be much appreciated - there are just too many speed cameras for comfort.
