Tinney sound and poss' exhaust manifold leaking..?

Just had the MOT done on the car... Lower wishbones and Brakes All round.... (sharp intake of breath..!) - Simple job though. Another thing - My mechanic pointed out that the tinney sound on startup and initial running was probably down to a leaking manifold... The sound goes away after a time when the engine has warmed up... Is this common...? Passed the MOT as he gave it a good run before submission Cossie Estate 1995, 70k - a few more miles than the clock says - I beleive I haven't had a look underneath yet.. Any ideas..? Cheers Dave

I recently changed my nearside manifold. That had a lovely crack in it. Sounded ruff as yer like when cold, but the crack sealed up a bit when it warmed up. Crack 1 Crack 2 Crack 3

The manifold came away from the block reasonably easy, but I had a problem detaching it from the first bit of the exhaust (CAT). Got there eventually, but if you're not a keen enough DIY mechanic, I'd get it booked into a garage. The new 2nd hand manifold was only 15quid and came from Dave (HowieDintheplace). Should be plenty of spares about on some breakers.
