Rear Windows?

Hi this may seem a silly question, but I have just noticed that the rear windows on my estate only go about 3/4 of the way down. Can anybody tell me is this normal? Or is this another in an ever growing list of niggley little problems.

Never noticed really, as it's only me in the car 99% of the time, and I can't abide driving with the rear windows open anyway, gives me serious earache

They call it a safety feature for kids in the back. Think the shape of the rear doors kinda forced their hand though!

to try to stop them jumping out years ago
before rear seat belts were added for passengers
