automatic dimming mirror

Hi,
Does anyone know how i test my rear view mirror? can anyone explain how i work it? Mine has a blue ish tint to it, yet in my old scorp it was clear.
is it supposed to dim when a car (headlamp) is approaching from rear at night?
whats the 'auto ' switch for / theory

on the rear of the unit,put your finger over the sensor,if the mirror is working ok,you'll see the difference..
