Exhaust front box

Found the outer cover (corrosion or heat shield) on the front exhaust box has corroded and hanging down on one side. I've refixed it with a steel strap round the box. Going in for MOT next week - is this a failure or simply an advisory? No leaks and inner skin is sound.

That'll be the cat then. As long as there are no leaks on the exhaust and emissions are okay then it should pass. However, the metal outer is a heat shield to stop the red hot cat from grilling it's surroundings! Darren

Don't think it's the cat - that (I think) is on the downpipe. This is on the front box before the pipe splits to two middle boxes. The front box seems to have a second casing made of a shiny steel. I think it's a corrosion protection - might even be stainless. But like you I think that if it's not leaking it should be OK. Thanks John B.
